Legislation for Load Stability

The legislation that governs load stability is looked at from various angles. Primarily the EUMOS regulations are set for travel in Europe but are the standard that is used for getting the best stability. Apart from that the waste disposal regulations are what influence a lot of decisions, especially with the current emphasis on protecting the environment. In all cases, we do the best for the customer to produce the most efficient and profitable result.

  • EUMOS

EUMOS is the European Safe Logistics Association and sets the benchmark for qualifying experts in cargo securing. Based in Brussels the standard applicable to pallet load stability is EUMOS 40509. Any pallets tested on our acceleration bench will be tested to this standard.

  • Packaging Waste Responsibilities

Packaging Waste Responsibilities – the government has issued regulations for the reporting and disposal of packaging waste. This can be found on the Government website as follows: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/packaging-producer-responsibilities.

  • BS EN 13432

BS EN 13432 is the standard covering the requirements for packaging recoverable through composting and biodegradation. There are four key requirements that are tested to meet this standard – biodegradability, disintegration, ecotoxicity, and chemical composition.

  • Plastic Packaging Tax

Plastic Packaging Tax – this is the recent tax to be imposed by the Government for any plastic that does not contain a minimum of 30% recycled content. At present this is due to be implemented in 2022 and the current rate is £200 per tonne or20p per kilo. However, it must be born in mind that pallet wrap with recycled content does not have the same strength as virgin pallet wrap, and in general it is more expensive. Therefore, the extra tax is often more than offset by the greater savings that can be achieved by using our Load Stability package.
